Description

In today's world, 90% of children's toys are made of plastic, with 80% of these toys ultimately ending up in landfills, incinerators, or oceans. Only 20% are recycled. Among the toys recycled by toy libraries, 20% remain highly damaged and cannot be restored to normal use even after repair by toy doctors. Our aim is to transform irreparably damaged plastic toys into new products, preventing well-sorted plastics from becoming general waste again due to incomplete recycling systems and low profits.

In collaboration with the Taiwan Toy Library Association, dedicated to constructing Taiwan's toy recycling system, we designed the concept for the Coral Chair with a focus on coral and ocean conservation. Initially, the design highlights the critical role coral plays in ecosystems. It addresses the impact of coral bleaching on the environment, emphasizes energy conservation, carbon reduction, and sustainable development, and encourages support for coral conservation efforts through the "Coral Chair." This aims to instill environmental consciousness and sustainability in children's growth and daily lives.

The Coral Chair features a dual-sided design with different heights: one side provides low chair legs for children, while the other offers taller chair legs for adults. Its modular extension design allows stacking to create large shared seating arrangements.
